My food cravings seem to depend on what my YouTube content creators are eating. And last week it was croissants. Most of the Korean YT creators eat their croissant as a croiffle (croissant waffle), but I couldn't justify buying a waffle maker just to satisfy my ka-suyaon. It was also proving hard to find good large sized frozen croissants in Cebu for me. I liked EZ Breads' croissants (ordered via foodpanda Cebu) but these were mini sized. I also tried ordering via Krumble but the site would not let me add to cart and customer service didn't email me back 😂.
So the next best thing was to buy baked croissants. I've not found a great croissant place in Cebu for the longest time. They were either too overcooked or undercooked for my taste. And plenty were also not made with butter, which I did not appreciate. For the longest time, I only loved Kate's kouign-amann. It's not exactly a croissant but it's a close relative. In the quest to find actual croissants, the web search led me to this Spot.ph article and eventually 5G Coffee House. And after I tried them, someone recommended Mon Dough Baking Co. to my brother.
Both were excellent options! My favorites at 5G Coffee were the Matcha croissant and Almond croissant (see pic below). And I was absolutely surprised at how good Mon Dough's Avocado croissant was. I've never had this flavor on a croissant before and loved it! Interestingly, if based on flavor alone I probably could not distinguish one maker from the other. But in terms of crispiness, Mon Dough was crunchier and more my texture style. Overall though, I'd gladly buy from both stores as soon as my next craving hits me. Really happy to have found two new high quality pastry places in Cebu.
Delivery experience for 5G Coffee Cebu was fantastic. They take your order via a google form and will reach out to you via text or messenger to confirm your order. Deliveries are not available everyday, but you'll know the available slots when you order. I did not order the Mon Dough Cebu myself, so I cannot vouch for the experience. But it was relatively okay if I'm going by my brother's reaction. Part of our order was not dispatched with the "larger box" but they remedied it in less than an hour.
