There are many yummy cakes in Cebu. I've written about Tymad before, and their Black Forest Cake remains to be one of my enduring favorites. In terms of chiffon with boiled icing, I actually absolutely love Bebong's. Both cakes were hard to purchase during Cebu lockdown because they didn't deliver. And I recently heard that Tymad will actually be closing their doors very soon.
This piece of sad news aside, I crave cakes based on the texture sometimes. If I like fudgy I'll want a more dense cake like the Black Forest. If I want it soft and sticky, I'll be missing Bebong's. Lately, I've discovered a soft and creamy option - Kakka Dairy Bar.
Kakka gained a lot of recognition for their ice cream, which is super good. By the way, Toasted Rice and Isapham (not sure I got the name right) are my top 2 favorites. But for me though, it's their cakes that are outstanding! I'm no expert, but I think the base is chiffon but it's super soft compared to a normal chiffon that has a bit more structure (??) and bounce. The filling and icing is cream-based, and by the taste of it likely pure cream since it's not too sweet and has no oily mouthfeel after eating. Most of the cake options also comes with fruits. We've had the tropical, mango only, and mixed berries to name a few. Everything was lami! If you're looking for a special occasions cake, try them!
Kakka also has the best egg tarts in town. It's super flaky and creamy. It often arrives warm too, so it's always a welcome treat in our house.
To manage expectations, Kakka is a small shop and run by a small team. While the food quality is always consistently great, replies to orders can take a little time especially on FB messenger. Text them if you need a quick answer. And for most of our delivery experiences, it comes later than what we agreed on. I suggest you allow a mental buffer of +1-2 hours on the agreed time. These little kinks aside, the tasty treats make it worth the small extra effort on our part.
Try them 😄
